Botanical Apartheid is a collection of my articles, research, photographs, and interviews published through High Times, Revista Cañamo, Vice, Global Ganja Report, Cannabis Now, Humboldt State University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and others from 1988 through 2026. It provides an historical record demonstrating how drug policy is inseparable from questions of human rights, climate change, labor, and social control. Evolving perceptions about the dangers of drugs have normalized the demonization of certain plants and people who grow and ingest them. I don’t propose any reductive reform narratives beyond a call for botanical literacy.
