Veit Publishing offers reasonable, transparent rates and personal service without hidden fees or claims on your copyright. Prices below are starting rates; you will receive a written estimate before work begins.

Book Formatting and Design

  • Print formatting: Starting at $650
    • Text-based manuscripts up to 50,000 words
    • Professional interior design and print-ready PDF
    • Prepared for Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Lulu, 48 Hour Books, the Book Patch, or another printer
  • Reflowable EPUB formatting: Starting at $400
    • Clickable table of contents, internal links, metadata, images, and device testing
    • Prepared for Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo, and other major retailers
  • Combined print and EPUB formatting: Starting at $850
    • Print-ready PDF and validated EPUB
    • Text-based manuscripts up to 50,000 words
  • Image-heavy books, fixed-layout ebooks, indexes, tables, footnotes, and other complex features are quoted separately.
  • Two rounds of reasonable corrections are included.

Cover Design

  • Ebook cover: Starting at $300
  • Full print cover—front, spine, and back: Starting at $500
  • Coordinated ebook and print cover package: Starting at $600
  • Includes two initial concepts and two rounds of reasonable revisions.
  • Illustration, extensive photo restoration, stock images, and specialty fonts are additional.

Audiobook Production

  • Narrated and produced by John Veit: $250 per finished hour
  • Production and editing with an outside narrator: $125 per finished hour, plus the narrator’s fee
  • Audiobook consultation and recording-sample review: $75
  • Approximately 9,300 words equal one finished hour.
  • Production includes editing, proofreading, mastering, chapter organization, and files prepared for ACX and other distributors.

Scanning

  • OCR scanning of printed documents: $1 per page
  • 600-dpi scan: $5 per image
  • 1,200-dpi archival scan: $8 per image
  • Color correction and digital cleanup: Starting at $15 per image
  • Handwriting transcription, extensive correction, restoration, and damaged materials are quoted separately.
  • Maximum document size: 8.5 × 11.7 inches
  • Maximum film-scanning area: 2.7 × 9.5 inches

Editing

  • Copy editing: Starting at 3.5¢ per word
  • Extensive line editing or rewriting: Starting at 5¢ per word
  • Proofreading: Starting at 2¢ per word
  • A sample is reviewed before the final editing rate is confirmed.

Publishing Administration

  • ISBN registration: $10 per ISBN
  • Retail barcode creation and placement: $10 per barcode
  • Copyright-registration assistance: $25, plus the government filing fee
  • ISBNs are provided free to eligible students and currently or formerly incarcerated people.
  • Copyright-registration assistance is administrative support, not legal advice.

Consultations and Estimates

  • Initial consultation: Free
  • Additional consultation: $100 per hour, billed in 10-minute increments
  • One additional consultation hour is included when you hire me for a project.
  • Discounts are available to students, currently and formerly incarcerated people, and organizations devoted to critical environmental justice.
